Successful Global Outlook 2016

Arendalsuka-Mæland-Hovland
The minister of Trade and Industry, Monika Mæland, gave a presentation on the topic “Industry of the Future”. In the photo above, Monika Mæland and SFI Offshore Mechatronics centre director Geir Hovland.

The Annual Global Outlook was held in Arendal as a part of Arendalsuka 2016. The conference was filled with very interesting speakers, touched upon important issues and a success. The SFI Partner responsible for WP7, GCE NODE, put together this great event. Both challenges and opportunities presented were relevant for the future activities in SFI Offshore mechatronics.

WP2+WP4 Reference Group Meeting

DSC_0034

On April 13 a full-day reference group meeting / workshop was organised at NOV’s offices at Kjøita 21-25, Kristiansand. The goal of the workshop was to present current status and plans, but also to align the research with input from the industry partners. The following partners were present: NTNU, UiA, NOV, MHWirth, Cameron, Bosch Rexroth, Klüber Lubrication and ABB (by video). Several new PhD positions in WP2 and WP4 will be filled during 2016, and the research in these two work-packages is now ramping up. It is of high priority in the SFI that the research in all work-packages is coordinated with the interests of the industrial partners.

Drilling Seminar, 26-27 October 2015

This week over 30 of the SFI staff – both from industry partners and from all academic partners – had a two days drilling course held by drilling expert Thore Bergsaker.

Thore Bergsaker lead the participants through geology, well design, drilling technology, production of wells and well intervention. There where also a discussion on effectiveness, safety and risks.

The course is important for all the SFI partners, especially those from UiA, NTNU, RWTH Aachen and Teknova – to get the understanding and basic knowledge about drilling in “real life”.
